Rachel's CA "formal"

On Saturday, Rachel was asked to go to "formal" at the rival high school.
Her date is a Mormon boy from the other ward (congregation) sharing our building.
They got to know each other mostly through Seminary (early morning religion class).
They actually went together to Mormon Prom last year.  Hmmmm......

A large group of kids met at one of the girl's house.
The view above is of the bay, the lights of LA and a bit of Malibu.  It was the perfect spot for taking pictures, if only I had remembered my flash.  They are standing next to a very nice pool which is on the second terrace down from a lawned terrace next to the house.
Even though the front of the house was very nice, it certainly didn't hint at what was behind it.
That happens a lot here.

Here, they are standing inside the pool house....nice.
Don't they look pretty!!

The dress standard here certainly is different than in NC.  There wasn't what I would call a formal among them.  Every dress, except for Rachel was either sleeveless or with spaghetti straps and very short, not a long one among them.  Thankfully there wasn't any wind or some of those girls would have had some embarrassing moments. They also were all wearing those sky high platform heels.  I guess times are changing, but they seem to be changing way faster here in CA.

As Joseph and I drove home, we sat in silence just contemplating what we just experienced.  Finally, Joseph said, "Well, I guess we're not in Kansas anymore."
Boy, that's an understatement.

Rachel actually had a great time and said that she met quite a few people who were very nice, which of course was contrary to the stories you ever hear about a rival school.
So her evening was a grand success and I couldn't be more proud of her for keeping her standards.
