football

Matt and his friend waiting for their game jerseys.

One of the fun things about fall is football.  I'm certainly not an expert on terms or rules but I enjoy watching.  My favorite is college, high school and kids.  My least is pro-football.  They are so arrogant.

Goofin off!!
Last year Matthew started playing in a little league.  And boy do they take football serious in our county.  It is obvious that they are carefully grooming them to play for our one high school.  It almost seems cruel since there is only a limited number who will make the team.  So I guess the odds are best for the coaches.  They eventually will have quite a few players to choose from.

I must admit that I complained a lot last year.  We (Matt and I) were spending a huge amount of time away from home: 2-3 nights of practice 2 hrs each and then two hours for games on Sat (we had to be there an hour early to "warm up").  To top it off I was the main driver for the rest of the kids.  Sarah and Joseph both had jobs and Dad was working or at church. Every now and then another parent would stand in for me at practice but for the most part I was it.
The up side is that it that I had quiet time in the car to read, make phone calls, or sleep.  I also got to talk with friends.  But my main concern was always Matt.  Since he was one of the smallest on the team, he didn't get to play that much.  He loves any ball game and handles the ball well.

Esther and Abby (no, not our Abi but a neighbor) eating the catered food for the pep rally.  I should have tracked her intake better because later that night she threw up.
This year is starting out better.  I think since Jacob is driving and Sarah is being such a big help, my stress level has gone down quite a bit.  I don't have to be everywhere at once.  I'm actually enjoying the practices now.  The biggest kids have moved on and there seems to be more (younger) boys Matt's size.  He's still 2nd string but hopefully they'll notice his talent, big heart and willingness to work.
That's Matthew, #83 just after he got his game shirt.
That's Esther's friend Jocie on the end.  Now Esther wants to know if she can be a cheerleader.  Not sure I want to go there.
