Jacob's mission update

Elder Whitaker (Jacob) is doing great!
Those who are friends with us on Facebook have probably seen these photos, but I wanted to
post about it here so that it is included in my journal entries.

It seems that the letters have been getting more positive each week.
We think he is hitting his stride and learning to love the people and area he is in more and more.
And his desire for others to experience the joy of the gospel has grown.
It's great to see him grow.

Aside from that, He and his companion killed a snake on the road outside their house.  Lovely!  It's just what every mom wants to hear.

Did you know that Grandpa P. (my dad) was actually driving through the same town Jacob is in?
He was there for business but kept his eyes peeled for Jacob and his companion on their bikes.
No such luck.
He even thought about driving to their house since he had the address, but was good and kept
the mission rules.  A visit could really be disruptive to the mindset of the missionaries.
But oh . . . it was tempting.

One of the things that missionaries offer is service to the community.
The gospel of Jesus Christ is all about giving ourselves as Jesus gave of himself.
Recently, Jacob and his companion along with their teaching appointments have had several opportunities to serve others.  In the picture below, you can see how dirty they got when they helped someone put new supports under their house.
Ew!!
It's a dirty job, but someone's got to do it, right?
I'm just glad they didn't find that snake under the house.
That would have been a different story all together!
