Goodbye home, hello MTC

Our day began by waking at 4:30 then leaving the house at 5:30 so that Jacob could
go through security by 6:30.
We were all a little blurry-eyed.
Abby was half ready for her Halloween party and half ready for bed.

I made sure that Jacob had an orange tie for his first day.

Goodbye California, hello Provo!
Joseph and Sarah picked Jacob up at the SLC airport and took him to lunch with their roommates Spencer and Kim.  It turns out Spencer went on his mission to Alabama too and was able to give Jacob some words of comfort (I think he was a little nervous).
I'm so grateful that they were there.  I don't think my mother heart could have
taken it any other way..

At the MTC (Missionary Training Center), they were met at the curb by other missionaries assigned to help.  So Joseph and Sarah said goodbye and he was off (kind of similar to the airports today, huh?).  I guess shorter goodbyes are like ripping off a band-aid, it works better when done quickly.

Once I knew he was there, I quickly ordered his first care package, a Halloween box of cookies and candy from a company that makes it easy to contact your missionary.  Dear Elder.com can send items to the MTC the very day you order them.

I wonder how his first day went?

  1. How exciting. I can't believe he's that old. He'll be wonderful and the people in Alabama will just love him. He's a Whitaker, how can they not.
