10lbs gone with my new diet--The Word of Wisdom

The Word of Wisdom, it's my new "old" diet.
I've followed it before but, most of the time, I've tried to have "one foot in Babylon
and one foot in Heaven" while trying to do it, if you know what I mean.

I think God has been trying to get my attention with minor health issues for over a year (back, foot, cholesterol).  So as I'm trying to get full range of my foot again after surgery, it occurs to me that this is the perfect time to try again to be healthy, truly healthy.  It goes right along with my attempt lately to "be better".  But, as always, the question is "What to do?"

My first thought was our church's health code called the Word of Wisdom (Doctrine & Covenants 89).  As a matter of fact, it's always my first thought when I'm trying to be healthy, but then some modern health guru's voice comes into my head with a different plan, the couch is too comfy or I see a luscious Lindor truffle calling my name.  I don't know why it's so hard to follow, because it's actually a health code given by our Father in Heaven to his children (Doctrine & Covenants 89) so we could lead happy, healthy lives. It's just as any father would do for his child.  In the church, we often refer to its don'ts.  But it's not merely don'ts, "don't drink coffee, tea or alcohol, no tobacco or anything harmful".  It actually talks more about what we should eat, like grains, fruits and vegetables and herbs.

Doesn't it make sense that the God who created our wonderfully complex bodies
would know how we should eat in order for them to be their best?

I haven't really told many people that I was doing this, but my family sure knows. I've done this before in spurts but always seem to give into pressure. The kids groan because they know from experience that I won't serve them any meat until it's cold outside.  Here in sunny CA that should make for a very long winter. (haha)

But I'm telling you about it now because I've seen some success.  It's possible!!
I don't count calories, measure my food, change the size of my plate, take pills before or after my meals, count the number of meals, or stop eating at a certain time.  Yet, I've lost weight every single week, without fail and I feel great!  Weight isn't my only measuring stick but I haven't gone to the doctor yet for blood tests.  I look forward to that!

I do:
moderate exercise 3-5xs a week (yoga & elliptical)
grains/starches at every meal
an abundance of vegetables and fruits
nuts, seeds, herbs
snacks when I want (apples, grapes, popcorn, etc)
no meat (until winter)
no dairy except for occasional goat cheese or a sprinkle of cheddar or parmesan
little to no sugar (family night treat or a taste of someone's dessert)
only drink water

The only time I count calories is when we are at a restaurant.  I quickly learned that a bowl of steamed veggies isn't as innocent as it may seem.  They'll steam them, then put butter all over them.  I ordered steamed broccoli once which should be 54 cal for a cup with 32mg of sodium.  I looked it up after and found out that my order was 140 cal with 300mg of sodium.  Holy moly!!  I thought the calories were bad but the sodium was an overload!

I'll share more as I journey down this path.
But for now, my plan is to stick to it this time and make my life line up
to what I know is right, the best I can.
